NerdNYC Board Game Night
So just about once a month NerdNYC runs a board game party at Think Coffee on Mercer (between 3rd and 4th Streets). I recently made friends with the guy who runs it so it was time to check it out.
Think Coffee is a really nice space. Marble counter tops accompany wine racks and the aroma of roasting coffee.I usually go for tea when I visit places like this, but tonight I really wanted an iced mocha and a Dulce de Leche cookie. Oh yeah Dulce de leche…
The party usually brings in 40 or more people from all over the city to play a large assortment of board games. The rules according to the website are:
- No experience is necessary to play! The rules of each game can be taught.
- Conversely, if you bring a game, please be prepared to teach it to new players.
- Table space at ThinkCoffee is always at something of a premium. We do the best we can, but it is probably better to avoid bringing games that require lots of table space, or ones that take more than 3 hours to finish. Save those games for other events like Recess!
I totally forgot to bring along Fluxx and the Cannibal Pygmies from outer Space, but there were plenty of new things to try.
Here we are trying out Tsuro; a fun game of following lines to you inevitable doom.
During a game of Pandemic I got the role of Archivist which just made me crack up. (i just got my Archiving certificate yesterday)
Lots of people gaming!
Lastly we played “Who will win?” which is a game where you pit famous people against each other in random contests and argue who will win. Some of the good ones were: Micky Mouse vs Conan the Barbarian at interrogation and Marilyn Monroe vs King Kong at Butlering. Ryan kicked our butts with his awesome debate skills.
